The Prime Minister that Stopped the Migrant Boats

V24 Exclusive: We sat down with former Australian PM Tony Abbott, the man who stopped 5,000 illegal migrants a month. His message to the West? Do the same, or face collapse. Western leaders are failing their people and sleepwalking into a civilizational crisis.

Abbott’s Warning to the West

Western governments are failing in their most basic duty: protecting their people. That’s the stark warning from former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott in an exclusive interview with Visegrád24 founder Stefan Tompson. Calm but unsparing, Abbott lays out a hard truth: the West is facing a “peaceful invasion”, and unless it reclaims its borders and its cultural confidence, it risks losing everything.

“Any country that has open borders is effectively subject to a form of peaceful invasion. It has lost its sovereignty,” Abbott said.

And he would know. As Australia’s 28th Prime Minister, Abbott engineered Operation Sovereign Borders, a policy that slashed illegal maritime arrivals from over 5,000 a month to zero in under a year. Now, he's sounding the alarm for Europe and America: without similar action, including mass deportations, the West will drown in unchecked migration, ideological chaos, and internal fragmentation.

The Australian Blueprint

In 2013, as smuggler boats poured into Australian waters, his government launched a radical shift: military coordination, border turn-backs, and lifeboat repatriations. Vessels were intercepted at sea, and migrants were placed in unsinkable orange rafts and sent back toward Indonesia.

“We stopped the boats by stopping them at sea. We gave people smugglers nothing to sell. Within nine months, illegal arrivals dropped to zero.”

Critics called it cruel. Abbott called it sovereignty, and the numbers backed him up. Even today, Australia’s center-left government has kept the core of his policy intact.

The principle, Abbott says, is brutally simple: if you don’t send people back, you invite more to come. And right now, Europe is making that mistake, again and again.

The Death of the West

Abbott’s warnings go far beyond border security. While Australia has largely cracked down on illegal immigration, he says legal migration is now overwhelmed by corporate greed and academic loopholes.

“We’ve subcontracted immigration to universities and businesses. It’s become an immigration racket masquerading as education.”

For Abbott, immigration must benefit the host country, not the other way around. But that basic principle has collapsed across much of the West, where integration is optional and assimilation is seen as a slur. He ties this breakdown to cultural Marxism, self-hatred, and a concerted effort to dismantle Western identity.

“We tell ourselves lies, that the British Empire was uniquely evil, that our civilization is built on oppression. No wonder our youth are ashamed instead of proud.”

He warns that mass unassimilated migration, especially from regions hostile to Western values, has fueled rising antisemitism, anti-Christian violence, and fractured parallel societies.

The Need for Moral Re-Armament

At the heart of Abbott’s message is a call for a renewed civilizational confidence. He urges young Westerners to reconnect with the true roots of their culture, not in fleeting activist slogans, but in the enduring values of the New Testament and the political legacy of leaders like Churchill.

“The modern world was made in English. We gave the world the rule of law, the scientific revolution, and freedom of conscience. It’s time we start acting like it.”

Quoting former Prime Minister John Howard, Abbott reminds us: “We will decide who comes to our country and the circumstances in which they come.” That, he insists, must be the rallying cry of every sovereign nation from Hungary to Texas, from Sweden to Sydney.

As the West grapples with record migration, mounting unrest, and leaders hamstrung by political correctness, Abbott’s stark message cuts through the noise like a wake-up call.

“Zero. Zero. That is the only acceptable number of illegal arrivals.”
